Don’t sell yourself short of what you’re worth

I work in supply chain and received an interview request from a recruiter at a company. THEY ASKED ME TO COME IN. I specialize in cost reduction and supplier relations. Always keeping doors open I said sure why not.

Did the typical phone screen then got an in person interview with the company and recruiter. Crushed the interview and gave them sincere feedback in what I’d be able to do for them. Now for the fun part....the salary negotiation....what I do for a living...negotiate and build relationships.

I knew I had these people on the hook. So I asked for the salary range. They gave me an offer of 47,000. I then stood up and shook their hands and said it wasn’t going to happen. They were stunned and asked me to sit back down and asked me what I’d require. I told them flat out I couldn’t accept anything under 105,000. (Has to be worthwhile for me to make the move.) The recruiters eyes got real wide and she was clearly embarrassed that she would bring somebody like me in that clearly doesn’t meet the range. It obviously got awkward and I told them I think we’re done and I then left. I told the manager in the room to keep me posted on any positions with “appropriate” salary ranges.

Just a story I’m throwing out there to not let recruiters and companies devalue you.
