Why is retail generally considered better than food service?

I’ve been in both food service (FOH and BOH, mostly swanky hipster cafes) and department store retail (sales and receiving), currently working in retail. It’s been slow so I was considering another job at a restaurant, but I’m repeatedly being told to stick with my current job because retail “looks better on paper”. But why is this? There are similarities with both job types, but I definitely worked harder while working in cafes, working at a faster pace, having more workload in a period of time, and just having to be overall more alert. Yes, lots of retail jobs require more sales and things do get crazy during the holidays, but overall, it’s at a much slower pace. For this reason, I feel like food service should be seen as equal, if not more impressive than retail. Would anyone care to explain?
