I work at a small business and act more-or-less as an assistant to the owner. I have access to our business accounts, perform many of our regular orders, and am the primary communicator with many vendors and customers. I believe (or at least did ) I have a thorough knowledge of most of the on-goings at the store.
Yesterday I went to use the store computer and found an email pulled up regarding an upcoming eviction hearing (which is scheduled for today). I know that finances aren't good and there have been issues with paying the rent on time. That being said, I was under the impression that we had a longer time frame to pull things together and, more importantly, that sales were on the right track towards doing so. It's just a hearing today but my understanding is that if things get to this point there will almost certainly be an eviction.
I didn't ask my boss/the owner about the email because I believe she will bring this up to me in her own time. However, knowing what I do I want to make sure I am taking the best course of action for my own sake. My partner and I have a decent amount of money in our collective savings so short term unemployment isn't a major concern. However, I wanted to know if I should be actively applying to jobs or at least looking for now. If we aren't facing an eviction I don't have plans to leave at the moment, and if we are I would at least like to stay through that time period.
