Major jump in responsibilities, no pay increase

I was hired on as a senior consultant specializing in solution delivery about a year ago. I'm salaried, full-time and have probably some of the best benefits in the industry. Pay is also incredibly good.

I've done very well over the past year and apparently made such an impression that I was earmarked and asked to take on a leadership role in the company's largest project -- sort of a big deal, we're a 15 billion dollar company.

I was very reluctant to accept as I really signed on to be a technical expert, not lead 10 architects and engineers. That being said, I also realize how bad it would have looked to turn this down. I agreed to take this on.

Fast forward: this new role is killing me with stress and work-life balance wise. Even though this was a massive jump in responsibilities on the project, my actual title never changed. I asked my manager for a raise, he escalated it in favor of my point, and basically came back saying there's nothing he can do for for me now; however, this is great justification at the end of the year for a large increase.

I feel like I've been given the run-around. I like the company and my previous role a lot, but would likely be on this project for the next year or two. It's draining me enough to where I may actually consider taking a different role or leaving.

What can I do? Am I justified to think that I deserve additional compensation for this?
