So a few weeks ago the company I'm working for laid off a bunch of people and dumped all of their work on the department I work in. This has led to such an increase in workloads, that most people are spending their time handling the tasks of the laid off people instead of the work they were actually hired to do. 20% of my department has quit in the few weeks since this happened and that number is set to get bigger.
I found out that I'm going to start getting training to do this extra work within the next two weeks and with it looking as bad as it is, I think it's time to start planning an exit. I'll inevitably be asked why I'm looking to leave my current position, but I'm not sure how to put it. Obviously I can't say that the job turned into a huge shitshow, so should I just say that the scope of the position changed or something?
