Title says it all. I'm not an engineer, I'm a User Researcher (think cross between design and data analytics), and my first interview didn't go well but I never really got feedback why. Reflecting on it, I think I just didn't have the "formal" tone of voice that maybe is expected with these bigger companies. I tend to interview like I'm having a conversation with a colleague or friend, and that didn't seem to go well.
Some thoughts I have is to take more ownership over projects I did and drive home that I was the key piece in everything, show off more of my creativity in my discipline rather than creativity in working in suboptimal situations. And ramble less, which is hard for me, I tend to interpret "walk me through your process" as "talk for 5-10 minutes about every things you'd consider". Which didn't seem to go over well. So I probably need help with doing better at "talking through your process and showing why you wouldn't approach the problem different ways/why you'd approach it the way you're proposing".
So basically I don't present myself well in interviews, but now I have another chance. Any advice? I'd much rather pay someone to help me and coach me rather than trudge through stuff myself, so if you have anyone you can refer me to that'd be great. Or just any advice in general. Thanks!
