Say a company has to choose between two candidates.
Candidate A is the preferred but candidate B is the backup.
Do companies usually leave the backup in the dark until Candidate A accepts? Or do they lie to Candidate B that they are still making a decision when in reality Candidate A is being offered first and has time to think through or do they inform Candidate B that they are the backup as they offered Candidate A the position?
