To be an early candidate or to be a later candidate?

Would you say that being interviewed shortly after a job posting is a bit of a leg down?

The reason I ask is bc I have a phone interview, for a job I really want and applied for, and the job only posted about 8 days ago.

I work for a large company now and was part of the hiring efforts for our recent full time hire. My boss made most decisions but I noticed that early in the process she was quick to be a little more strict in what she was looking for and as the process went on she also “lightened up a bit”.

This is just one anecdotal example that I’m basing this off of but wanted to hear other people’s thoughts? Especially hiring managers/participants.
