Lateral move vs. promotion?

I got a job offer at a modern, fun, new-age marketing agency. The new position is VERY similar to my current job (old school advertising company)— about 90% the same responsibilities. This is definitely a lateral move, not much change other than the company itself.

My current employer offered to promote me, to become a manager (6 employees under me), matched the offered pay, increased my commission payout, and switched me to a salary employee.

Is a promotion always better than a lateral move? Having “manager” on my resume would be great for future jobs. I just don’t want to regret not going with the more fun company just for the title change.

Any advice, experience or opinions are welcomed!
