I asked for days off and got rejected. Looking for advice on how to ask again.

I work for a small family business. We do not get vacation days, but our state requires that employers give us 3 days PTO for sick/ personal leave a year. I asked for 2 days off in the end of June and a week off in September. My boss rejected my request because I was on maternity leave from September 2018-December 2018 and I “just got back from time off” (my boss’s words). Considering it’s May 2019, It’s technically been 5 + months since I’ve been back, and my leave was in 2018. My boss has also been asking me to work weekends (so 6-7 days/week), but I told her I can’t because I don’t have childcare on the weekends- plus I want to be home with my family. So my boss has been a bit salty about that.

How do I go about getting that time off now? Do I use my 3 personal/ sick days in June or September, even though my boss rejected my request? My husband says to ask my boss again, but I’m not even sure how to approach her with this conversation.

A bit more background info: - We do not have an HR department. It’s just my boss (the owner of the business) and a handful of employees (like myself) - we did not receive, nor have, an employees manual or workplace handbook for me to refer to - I enjoy my job and do not see myself quitting, but this ticks me and my husband off. - I have worked this job for 3 years, and my maternity leave was the only time I’ve taken off of work.

Thanks!
