I just finished my junior year as a wildlife and fisheries major with a concentration in wildlife health. I haven't really gotten any professional animal experience since even the vet offices around here want kennel and vet assistants to have at least one year of experience. I also don't have any field work experience, except for a field course I took. Most of my courses consist of molecular biology type courses, which I'm not sure if that's normal or not.
I know that most people who get a similar degree do so because they want to constantly do field work, but I don't think I really want to do field work. Like, I think I'd be fine with going out into the field every once in a while, but not every day. The main careers I'm interested in is wildlife rehabbing or zoo/aquarium work. I am also interested in wildlife disease, like vet epidemiology but you need a vet degree for that.
I do want to get my master's, but I'm still trying to determine for what specifically, though I know it will be for something related to animals. I'm wondering if it's a good idea to major in this if I'm not 100% interested in field work. Are those the only jobs I'm going to find? What non-field jobs are there for people with a wildlife degree?
