This is my first time posting so apologies for any formatting issues.
I was recently offered a job for 55k, and I am really happy about it! I'll finally be making decent money, it's in a position I love and I think its definitely a good way to start my career. I accepted the offer over the phone but most of my friends and family are saying that I should have really negotiated to get a higher salary. They're saying that because we live in such an expensive part of the country I should try and get closer to 60k.
The recruiter recently sent me the written offer and is giving me a few days to accept it. Do you think its still possible for me to try and negotiate at this point? I want to tell her something among the lines of: "Hey I am really excited about this position but because I live in such a high cost of living area I wanted to know if its possible for us to negotiate the salary a bit. Could it be closer to $XYZ?".
Is it too late for that? My only concern is that they would rescind the offer but most of my family is telling me they just don't see that happening. I feel very paranoid about that though because it's taken me so long to finally get a "real" job.
