I am an attorney licensed in a state in the Midwest. I am moving to the east coast soon for family reasons. I am working on becoming licensed in D.C. and the surrounding states, but it may be close to a year before I am admitted in those jurisdictions (for a couple of reasons). On this side of a year, it feels like a lifetime to wait for the *chance* to be employed.
My questions are:
(1) Is it possible to be employed as an attorney or something close to that in the D.C. area while waiting on admission there (e.g., on a limited or probationary basis)?
(2) If so, who should I talk to about employment in the district?
(3) If I can't remain in the legal field, what other careers match well with the skills of an attorney (like reading, writing, public speaking)?
