I accepted a full time position at a company. Everything was going great. As of very recently my mother who I live with is basically bed ridden and I will have to be her primary caregiver until familial logistics can be sorted out. I don't know how long that will take.
The hiring manager and recruiter has been pretty awesome with me so far. I was genuinely excited to start but at the moment my mothers health is my top priority. I don't want to lose the chance with this company. Its a specialized healthcare position that requires graduate school and certification. So while its not exactly a position they can fill with anyone on the street, I know there are other professionals applying for these types of positions. Obviously they chose me for a reason and I want to use that as leverage when discussing my situation with the manager.
How can I negotiate with the company to reduce my hours for personal reasons? Is there a chance this can go well or will they not care at all?
