Basic background on me: Graduated from a small DIII liberal arts school with a BS in Computational Applied Mathematics. The program didn't really specialize in anything but I understand the foundations for math, CS, etc.
So basically the job I have now is in Modeling and Simulation and the pay and benefits are good, but management isn't very good, I'm not a huge fan of the area, and my skills aren't really being developed. I've started applying to Data Science, Operations Research, and some Analytics type jobs, but I keep getting rejected because my department doesn't train us to use any relevant tools or programming languages so I'm wondering if maybe I'm looking in the wrong direction?
I'm looking to move to the northern virginia area and do something in the defense industry. My secret clearance is in the works, but I don't know when that's gonna come in. I already have my resume up on LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, and Dice. So I'm mainly looking for advice on what job titles I should search for? And how to maximize my visibility? Thanks.
