My dad got laid off at 57 from a VP position. It's been 2 years since then and he can't find work.

My dad's company got acquired 3 years ago by a large technology company. He worked there for a year, but then got let go (no idea why, maybe ageism or they didn't need him anymore).

Anyway, it's been 2 years since then and he can't find work. He's just been applying to online job postings and asking people in his network, but no luck.

What are our options here? What avenues should we be looking at? Are we missing anything here? Is consulting an option, and if so how can he get into that? Could he apply to a lower position just so we can have an income stream?

He was a VP for a semiconductor company that makes computer hardware if that matters.
