I'm 28, and in college I was working as a line cook and really enjoyed it. Since I graduated though, I've been floundering about in the corporate, professional world and I absolutely despise it. Maybe I just haven't had good luck finding good companies, but I see these gross and abusive people constantly in management positions, and the work is always just mundane and awful.
I miss being on my feet and actually doing real, tangible things. I don't really think I'd enjoy the trades, as I lack mechanical/constructional skills. I like working with food a lot.
I'd love to go back to restaurant, but I feel like I'd be throwing away my 5 years of suffering and have nothing to show for it. Making money is not important to me, it's nice, but not being miserable for 40-60 hours a week is infinitely more important.
