I have a free ticket to decide my own performance review procedure. What do I do?

I approached my company for a pay rise and received an increase based on the workload I’ve accepted and done battle with over the last 3 years.

To my surprise my company made an offer for 2020 based on some hastily decided goals which include:

  • wrap up an existing project (train overseas hardware engineers, secure signature, collect final payment)
  • negotiate a service and maintenance contract with a partner
  • keep on top of service and maintenance issues over 7 sites in 3 APAC countries
  • roll out our new reporting tool to each of the sites for our clients
  • use reporting wizardry to pool the data from all sites for our own reporting purposes

So, for a meeting this week my manager asked me to prepare a “simple review format that can be used for quarterly reviews”

My initial thought was “isn’t that a job for HR?”, closely followed by “hold on, maybe I could design this review format to my advantage”. Then I realized that I don’t know what I’m doing and could easily set myself up to fail.

I’d like to come up with something simple that demonstrates my performance but not so detailed I feel micromanaged.

Does anyone have tips as to how I can turn this situation to my advantage?
