As a RN, did I make a mistake of working a different job?

You can look at my previous posts for more context. Basically I’m deaf and recently graduated from a nursing school. It’s very difficult for me to get a hospital job because it seems like no one wants to hire a deaf nurse (not surprising).

However a friend of mine recommended that I apply for a counsellor job at his company. I would be working with adults with developmental disabilities, and the reason why I was recommended to apply is because the job duties are similar to those of RNs.

He said that after 1 year of working there as a counsellor, I can transfer to a RN position once it opens up. The company hires RNs quite often - just not at this time.

Is this a good idea? This morning I was offered the job position for a counsellor.
