Very weird/sketchy interview situation.

Last week I applied for a position at a company within my industry, and received a phone call from the department head 2 days ago. We chatted and he invited me to an interview that we scheduled for this morning.

Once we hung up, I went on the company website to find his photo on their staff page. I like to know what the person interviewing me looks like beforehand as it just makes me feel more prepared / makes me feel like one less thing could go wrong.

Yesterday morning I decided to take another browse at the company's staff page (who doesn't like reading staff bios about your potential future coworkers when bored? Lol), and I noticed that the department head I spoke to is no longer listed. Now it's a woman with a different name, but now with his very specific department head title. He is just gone.

I find this odd and I decide to call him, or someone, to confirm who exactly I am meeting with for my interview. A receptionist answers and when I ask for the man's name, she then just transfers me to the voicemail of the woman who is now listed as the department head. I don't leave a message this time. I call back, now a different receptionist answers and claims that she has been working there for over 2 years and no one with that name has ever worked there. She tells me the woman department head will be in shortly.

So, I send an email to the woman director and as professionally and politely as possible, explain my situation and that I'm emailing to confirm our interview is scheduled, who I'm meeting with .etc. All day passes and I don't hear a word from her, so I try calling again, and left a voicemail for her this time.

Fast forward to today, and I still haven't heard a word from them. I didn't go to the interview because at this point I find it extremely strange and disorganized that even if by some chance I was dead wrong and crazy about everything I heard and saw, the department head didn't even take 2 minutes to email or call me back. Oh also, there is a new posting now for the same position that I applied for, but written/worded completely differently than the last.

Am I right to be annoyed? What is going on? I have the company caller ID and number in my phone log from when he called me, which connects right to the company line when I call. I have no interest in this company any longer to be honest, but I do want to know who called me and what their deal is.

My best guess is that the man got unexpectedly canned, employees were instructed to not say a word, and they are probably still trying to figure out who the guy arranged interviews with... 🤔🤔🤔
