If one of the jobs I apply to tell me they want to hire me, should I say I want to wait and see the offers from the other jobs first?

Usually you want to apply to several/many jobs because waiting times can be relatively long and you might not even hear back at all. If you only apply to one job, it could take years before you land one.

Secondly, they rarely are upfront about the job details, so you have to pass the interview stage before it's your turn to start asking questions about the work place, schedule.... and SALARY.

So that's another reason to apply to many jobs or else you will be too tempted and feel forced to take the first crappy job offer you're offered.

So, now to the point of this topic: If job 1 says after the interview that they want to hire you, but you're not done interviewing with job 2 yet, should you tell them that you're still waiting for offers from the other jobs you are interviewing with?

I just remember reading that it's bad to tell them this, that they can be offended even though it doesn't make sense. That they might withdraw their offer.

If that's the case, is job hunting best to be used with the secretary algorithm? Where you either:

- List all the jobs you want to apply to, then you listen to the first 30% of the jobs offers and decline them. Then you take the first job offer which beats the best job offer you received so far.

- Decide how long time you want to be searching for a job, then decline all job offers the first 30% of that time period before you accept the first job offer that is better than the best offer received so far.
