I was employed for 6 years at a place and then quit for a job outside my normal career. I hated the new job and quit after a month. Now I’m looking for jobs back into my old field and found a place that offered me a manager role contingent on reference check. Problem is I didn’t say that I’m unemployed. I have been doing freelance and contracted work with my old employer so I just listed it as Present on my resume. They sent me the offer letter, told me to give my notice, and then provide my current manager’s number for a reference check. Am I royally screwed?
I will say that the reason I sort of lied is because initially when I was going on interviews and telling them the truth, I got weird looks and zero interest. As soon as I changed my status from unemployed to employed, I got so many calls for interviews. Sigh.
