Will my job offer be rescinded?

Hello Reddit,

So, on a positive note. I was just offered a job with an amazing company as an Investigator.

A little history...I was charged with two second degree misdemeanors (trespassing) in 2016. I was never arrested, nor convicted - so I was never fingerprinted. No paper “arrest” or summons by law enforcement either. I made a deal with the prosecutor and entered a plea of no contest. Adjudication of guilt was withheld by the judge, so...no conviction.

Thus far, throughout the 6 month hiring process (application, skills assessment, a phone interview, and 2 in person interviews), I haven’t been asked once about criminal history.

Typical background checks through the state and FBI never reveal anything. No record of me being charged with anything. It only shows up on the local clerk of the court website.

I anticipate receiving a background check questionnaire in the coming days that asks if I ever pled no contest to a crime. I intend on being honest and disclosing it - even though nothing will show up in their check. I’m really worried that I’ll be opening up a can of worms by “telling on myself” and they’ll rescind the offer.

I’m like 80% sure this is a non-issue...but the other 20% of me is terrified that it will become an issue. I started the process to have it sealed...but it will not be done in time for this.

Has anyone else had an experience like this? Any tips for disclosing this and how to talk about it? Am I just freaking out over nothing?
