Throwaway account, for obvious reasons. Want to hear everyone's thoughts.
So, I was unemployed for a couple months. I recently landed a position that I am happy with. Now, another company that I interviewed with, back at the beginning of my unemployment 2 months ago, finally reached back out to me.
Normally, this would be a hard no. But, the high end of the pay scale for this potential position is 50% more than my current salary. Both my current position and the position in question are similar in title and responsibilities.
So, here's the catch. They aren't directly offering me the position. They want me to come in to work for 2 days on contract some time in the next couple weeks. In fact, they didn't mention at all if those 2 days are to be thought of as a final interview, a trial run, or what, just that they want me to come in.
Needless to say, with me having just started my current job, there's no way I can take two days off to go "try out" for another company. If they want to offer me the full-time role, that would be something I might consider. Again, normally I would NEVER leave a job for another this early on, but with the pay at this other job being so much higher, I believe consideration has to be given.
Thoughts on how I can handle a reply to their email that is honest, while also probing to find out what this 2 day contract stuff is all about, and pushing for skipping all the hoopla and getting to a full-time offer?
Or, should I just let it be and politely remove myself from consideration?
