To make a long story short, people at my work found out I speak language X. I speak it enough to hold a conversation, but I have a really hard time reading the script. I never felt comfortable using it in a professional environment, and I had left it off my CV entirely for that reason. It came up in conversation and since then I'm the go to person whenever we need to do something with language X and the country it comes from (Country X).
I just got an email asking me to call an organisation in Country X tomorrow and ask some pretty complicated, detailed questions to get clarification on something we're working on. I doubt anyone there speaks English, and although I've been able to get by (barely) when I've had to use language X at this job so far, I think this is really beyond my speaking abilities.
I think I should just be straight up and tell the person look I'll try my best but I can't promise anything, that I'm concerned my language skills aren't quite high enough for this task. I'm worried I'll do it and give my colleagues wrong/incorrect info because I didn't say something properly or misunderstood it.
Hope this makes sense and any advice would be appreciated.
