Am I doing this wrong?

I'm applying to places, but I feel like I'm messing up. I've gotten one interview in the field I want (marketing). I'm looking for marketing coordinator and marketing assistant on indeed and LinkedIn. My resume is updated, my cover letter seems fine? The entry level positions I do find that match my skills I'm getting nothing back on. A lot are saying I marketing, journalism, or English major preferred- is this the problem? I majored in Government and Politics at a good school and assumed those were similar?
