I accepted a Union warehouse job today as a 3rd shift order picker, which "supposedly" hits $21/hr after 8 weeks of temp agency work + 90 work days of probation(about 6 months from now, total). I was then told by a co-worker that I likely won't hit $21 until 4 years from now, and it will be a slow crawl to that point...
If I go for electrician apprenticeship, a skill and pay I can take with me, I will be at
* $19.50/hr once I hit "4th period" (3500-5000 hours OTJ+school)
* $25/hr in "5th period" (5000-6500 hours OJT+school)
* $28/hr in "6th period" (6500-8200 hours OJT+school)
* $35-45/hr as Journeyman
What other high-pay jobs should I look for, requiring no more than 2 years of college(ideally none)? I enjoy working with my hands and electronics, have a random BA, Workers Readiness Certificate, a shy/unsocial personality, and no real skills other than warehouse/general labor and computer use. Manufacturing..? Some kind of tech/communications degree/cert..?
