I've been working at a fast food place for going on two years now. I started as a crew member and stayed there for about a year and two months, then I was promoted to a shift manager, which I currently am and have been for about eight months. I've wanted to quit this job for a long while and just haven't really found any opportunities that pay as well. I was recently offered a promotion to assistant manager, I declined it at first but my manager was quite insistent and gave me about three weeks to think about it before making me answer.
Ultimately, I accepted it and I'm now in the process of the promotion (a lot of training.) I accepted it because she was very insistent that she wanted me to take it instead of having her boss choose somebody from a different store, and I also thought it would look quite good on my resume to have two promotions in two years, with one of them being managerial.
With all that said, the problem comes in. My work-related stress has only been increasing since I said yes and it's also only going to get worse. I've been looking for other jobs and found one that offers similar pay with workdays (from the six I work now) as well as better hours, but I'm conflicted for several reasons that I could use some help with.
The first reason is that I feel pretty guilty leaving, my manager has almost always done well by me and pushed hard for me to be offered the promotion in the first place, and she's always told me how she values me and is glad I work there. The second reason is more of a professional oriented one. In spite of it being a fast food job, I'm worried that quitting so soon after a promotion would reflect badly on me for any future jobs.
