Need job advice big time-- just got hired as a store manager and will be dealing with a whole new pre-existing staff.
Hey hey! For background/clarification, I was just wrongfully termed from my previous job of 4 years on Friday. I was a store manager there as well and since this term was not foreseen by me or any of my staff, I'll have to battle out the legal stuff after making sure my bills get paid. (Different story, different subreddit). A few hours after I was escorted out I got into contact with a DM from an old job and she's offered me to run a store that is in a dire situation (high turnover, some employees are awesome, some not so much, high theft rates, the kind of challenge I want to take on) that has not had a manager in more than six months and not had a reliable management team in well over a year. From the info she was able to give me today, the associates presently there have developed a pretty tight knit crew and have a "momma" associate that they resolve all their issues with/go to when things go wrong or decision making comes into play.
I'm meeting with the area manager in the next couple days and I'm going to lay out my game plan to get the store together for them. However, I've never been dropped into a situation where I was not promoted from within and grew with my associates and I want to establish from day one the respect, understanding, caring, mutual agreement that I had with my previous staff without coming off as a nightmare boss or as a pushover. This fear is doubled over by the fact that I am YOUNG compared to any other store manager I've ever worked with in either company.
If any of you have been dropped into a similar situation or in the field long enough, could you help me out with some pointers? I don't want to jack this up before I've barely started.
