Looking for advice from a manager

How do you cope with employees who aren't as good/productive/useful as the others? I'm asking this because I've been working this retail job for two months and I fucked up most of the time. I am not good at the job. I am not fast. My colleagues can do things twice as fast as me. My attention span is very limited and I also have to work with money, which is a recipe for disaster. I've never really caused huge casualties in terms of miscalculations when it comes to counting money and I consider myself to be an average cashier but I am way too anxious to ask customers to show me their bags/purses/whatever they're carrying and that has brought the store some casualties because of thievery. I know my coworkers pretty much loathe me and I tried to befriend them but they're not really interested. Most of them aren't very open and they probably think I am a loser. It's very difficult for me to work when I know I'm both bad at the job and undesired by the entire team.

Now the question is, how do you tackle such cases? If you happen to have an employee who is trying hard (because I am trying hard) but just CAN'T be good at the job, do you usually fire them? Or are you willing to give them more chances to improve? I've only been hired for two months and this is also my first job and I'm scared of getting fired. I'm really looking for advice from someone who is a manager and has encountered similar cases in their career.
