As in title, I have a fairly crap Spring part-time internship with a local company. I’m paid practically minimum wage, I have a very limited number of staff that I report to (less managers to get a diverse or prestigious recommendations from) and I don’t believe the company trusts me to do anything important enough to make it seem important on a resume.
Besides getting set up and logged into the company systems, I’ve done random stocking and errand running, and the very basic “bitchwork” - take a screenshot of this and email the Operations supervisor, sit around because the interns weren’t able to use the sharepoint, assist the digital facilitator (which amounts to proofreading generic emails). None of this sounds very impressive and I’m worried it’ll basically be “get coffees and do work we are too lazy to get out of our chairs for”.
Of course, some internship is better than nothing, but I can’t help but feel worried I’ll be committed for all these hours for nothing. My manager doesn’t really seem to care who I am and I’m worried I won’t even get a decent recommendation after this. Even if it is better than fast food or retail (I’ve been there, this is still better) I’m worried it won’t help my professional development.
TL;DR: how do I make the most out of crap?
