Hi! I’m an 18 year old high school senior in a dual enrollment program where I take my (three) classes at a community college in a neighboring city. I’m currently working part time at the front desk of a small inn, usually between 10 and 17 hours a week. I love this job and it pays pretty well, but that just isn’t a lot of hours...typically it’s 1-2 nights a week and every other weekend. It’s very chill and there’s a lot of downtime. I do most of my homework while I’m there.
Next quarter, starting in April, I’ll be taking 2 online classes and will only have to commute to school 2 days a week. That’ll leave me with an extra 3 days every week wide open, plus every other weekend. I’m contemplating finding a second morning job. The place where I live doesn’t have many employment opportunities, but the places I’m looking at include a few coffee shops, a frozen yogurt place, a bookstore, a gym, and a movie theater. There’s also a grocery shop that I’ve worked at before, but I really hated it there. So that’s a last resort. I could work more hours at this job during the summer.
My biggest worry is that my second job won’t be flexible enough and I’ll run into a lot of scheduling issues. I’ve never worked more than one at any given time, so I’m not quite sure how it works. (Any insight on what working a second job is like would be appreciated!!) I really don’t want to quit my current job because it’s like a paid study hall and I love my coworkers.
