Probably going to fail nursing school semester - do NOT want to retake it if I can help it. What are some decent alternatives to nursing?
I got 2 years into my 3 year nursing program when a bunch of stuff happened to make my first semester back incredibly difficult. I was broken up with my first day of school, I failed my first test, and I just wasn't impressing my clinical instructor. Even when I got back on track and pulled some decent grades to hike my average back up, I was still failing clinical and probably will end the semester with a fail.
I do not have hardly any work experience or 'hustle' and I think that was the biggest thing holding me back but I also quite simply don't want to be a nurse anymore. The 200-level courses really test you to see if it's for you and I just don't think it is - at least not now.
So, with my dropping out basically imminent, what are some good alternatives? I will get a lesser-paying job in the meantime but I still want to search for my best options while waiting for the next semester's time to roll back around. I also don't need to make the same amount of money as nurses in the end, although I would still like to come out making $17-25/hr (in PA). I'm fine with going to school again - I know most decent paying jobs require some level of it. But I want to go for 2 years max, getting an AD or BD at the most.
I have considered the following:
- Surg-tech
- Respiratory therapy
- Sonography Technician
Do you guys have suggestions as to which may be best for me or any other suggestions to include in my search? I should probably mention that I am not an incredible adapter - I like going in, knowing what I'm doing, doing it, and going home. Also, in terms of schooling and the job itself, I am not the most critical thinker. Again, I like tasks, and just want to learn the skills necessary and then go into my job confident that I know what I am doing in a day and that I can do my job well. Nursing, with the ultra-high level of critical thinking and patient-juggling doesn't provide me with that experience, so I'm looking toward a different route.
Thanks!
