I've never applied for a job after college. I dropped out with 8 credits left towards my Chemistry degree and a completed math minor due to a severe mental breakdown (I was pre-med without a backup plan). I ended up working for my mom's company as a property manager with a real estate license as I recovered. She was an independent broker and did real estate.
Now I'm 29 and just stopped working for my mom because I dislike property management. I'm interested in working in tech or science. I'm planning on finishing my chem degree with online classes and then learning programming/computer science. I'm not sure what types of jobs to apply for in the meantime.
I'm not sure how much experience I gained working for my mom as we were the only employees aside from hiring contractors and maintenance. At one point, I was basically running everything (except for purchasing homes and remodeling them) with around 40 houses, but I felt like many aspects of the business were very informal and inefficient due to being a family business. I'm not sure how this would translate to a professional environment other than property management. I feel like I'm starting from scratch due to working for my mom instead of an employer and having a patchy resume with an incomplete college degree and gap years of unemployment. I don't have any job references aside from my mom.
I thought about applying for something simple like a warehouse job or retail job until I finish learning some programming. I also thought about entry level chem tech jobs that don't require a full degree.
