I am currently waiting to enrol into university next autumn, and I recently started this temporary job/internship at a logistics company. This logistics company is owned by my father's friend, and he encouraged me to join his company on a temporary basis. I accepted the job hoping that it would be a fulfilling way to spend my break before university starts.
However, it's only been one week into the job and I find that I have close to zero interest in the industry. He (my father's friend) assigned me to one of his managers, where I was told he would be a mentor to me. I'm not sure it's been normal, but on most days so far he leaves for hours at a time on workdays and usually leaves me with almost nothing to do. No research, no shadowing. I know I'm not anyone important but it seems weird to me that he does not even tell me where he's going before he leaves and it's a little bit frustrating.
I'm afraid that wanting to leave too soon (I foolishly said I would be able to commit for a few months) would give a bad impression of me to not only my father's friend but also my father, and I don't want to be seen as a typical millennial who gives up so easily. However because I have no interest and as mentioned before about the manager I feel like I don't want to stay any longer.
What should I do? Should I wait out and work for 1-2 months more to wait and see? Or should I quit to explore other things? If so is there a way to settle this so that I don't piss off the family friend and my family? Thanks!
