Need to get out of Customer Service.

I have an associates degree I need Humanities from a community college. For 15 years I've been in customer service, and this is the only way I can market myself.

I currently work at a call center for a large company, and my plan was to climb the ladder to an entry level engineering position and at the very least, have something under my belt. Shortly after I took the job, the company was bought, and the possibility of changing fields got slashed.

I've been promoted to a lead, where I do internal support and handle escalated calls. Occasionally we'll assist with meetings, and handle other special projects on the side as needed. I've held this position for a few years. The next logical step would be to the supervisor level, where I would be in charge of a team, run the meetings, do interviews, God knows what else. My plan had been to take this position, the experience from which I could surely use to work some place better, and ideally outside of customer service.

Now we're moving to a new city, and I'll be looking for new employment. I am so burned out in customer service, I've never felt such a hatred for the general public. But as always, I have no other way to market myself, aside from the fact that I was promoted to a lead.

Without taking a substantial pay cut or dropping right back into the front lines against the world, what are some other types of jobs who would find value in a seasoned customer service rep? When I check listings, all the jobs seem to ask for people with experience in that job. Job postings seem to exaggerate in their expectations, and it's tough to know whether the position actually requires an expert or if they just want someone who isn't going to shit the bed.

What kind of jobs should I target in a job search that would pay well and get me the hell away from customer service?
