I hate my job. Is this an out?

I got a new job across the country with a relocation package and benefits. Although my pay is high, the benefits are lacking, and I hate the general chaos of the organization. I miss working for a company with better structure. I'm currently job hunting, and at this rate I've accepted that it's worth me paying the penalties for breaking my one year contract. I'm not sure what to tell new potential employers or what to say if I leave though.

Originally I was planning on phrasing it that I was told I'd be doing x but I ended up doing y during a job interview, but then something happened.

A few weeks ago, there was a scandal at my work. I only know the rumors, apparently there was something said between a manager and their employee that was vaguely derogatory about that employee's sexual orientation. The employee quit at the end of the day. The manager is still there. I never found out what words were exactly said, but apparently the employee wasn't shy about telling everyone what happened towards the end of the day.

I've noticed an uptick in people putting in their two weeks notices ever since.

Is it reasonable to cite this for my reason for wanting to leave at a job interview and to disclose this reason as to why I'm ultimately leaving as well even if I personally didn't bear witness and only heard rumors? This is a small company with less than 30 people, so it's pretty unlikely that the rumor is false.
