Two months ago I had a salary talk with mye boss. I have been working here for 1,5 years, and I asked for a $3,5k raise as I have been doing pretty well. I made $58k. He told me that since I didn't ask earlier during our annual salary discussion (it was done a bit different this year which I didn't know), he had already given me a raise of $2k. I was a little disappointed as I knew a lot of my friends make $62-63k, but I guess it was my fault for doing that mistake.
Three weeks ago I saw some interesting job ads, and decided to apply for them. I got called back to all of them. Yesterday I just finished a 2. interview, which went very well. I asked for $70k, which was fine for them. I would say it's a pretty good chance that I will be getting the job, and if not I'm still in the prosess with 2 other companies and 1 that I haven't answered yet.
My boss is really nice. I have already been feeling extremely guilty for going to interviews, while pretending like nothing when he's talking about all the plans he has for me and more. We also just had my senior coworker quit (not for any bad reasons, he has just worked here for a very long time and wanted to try something new), and the interview process hasn't been going so well. If I also leave they will be left with no one.
Right now he just came in smiling and told me that he managed to talk with HR and that I would be getting $5,5k more instead of $2k. My salary would be $63,5k. He knew I was not happy about our last salary discussion, and that he fought for me to get more, with resulted in me getting more than what I asked for in the first place.
The guilt is killing me. The money isn't the most important thing for me, but with a new job I would make about $70k instead of $63,5k. I feel bad about potentially leaving here and also about the other company that I'm interviewing with if I get the job and don't take it.
This is my first job, and I honestly don't know what to do.
