These are both Florida jobs which is an at-will state* I've been at the current job for roughly 10 months now. Have had zero raises, though I've had job 'promotions' 2 times. Have been asking to talk about a raise etc now and been put off for over 3 weeks(cancelled meetings with me). We 'may' get a 500$ holiday bonus. Was told it was for sure when hired, but now told it isn't guaranteed. 5 day work week, 8 to 5. Told to only take 30 min lunches, so we get 30 mins ot a day at least. Little to no way for me to 'grow' at the job beyond where I'm at unless someone quits. Have to provide my own tools, safety equipment, clothes, etc. I get free snackbar access and catered lunch every friday. Once in a while I get 5.5hrs of OT on a sat. 2 weeks paid vacation per year. I don't particularly care for the job but its 20 mins closer to home, and I enjoy working with most of my coworkers. Outdoors, on my feet all day or driving. Mediocre at best health benefits
New job 4 day work week (4 10.5 hr days). 3 day weekends every week(3 days in a row). Lots of OT available. Guaranteed minimum of $1.3/hr in pay raises per year (unionized) over the course of the year. They pay for tuition if it furthers me at the job or makes me able to move to a better one in company. I don't need to provide any tools. They pay for safety equipment. No free snackbar/catered lunches but they have a good cafeteria. 3 weeks paid vacation. Huge corporation, tons of room to move to other jobs, move up etc etc. No bonuses that I know of. Will be 2nd shift either mon-thurs or tues-fri. I'll be making with shift differential $.75 an hour more than the current job. People that have been there a year longer than me only make $.50 more than I do an hour. Indoor job, not on my feet, climate controlled. Better/good health benefits. 401k contribution.
I've never quit a job before (military for 10 years, last job just stopped paying me and I just left, Im technically still employed there). I have horrible feet, joint issues.
Not sure if I should give my 2 weeks notice or what?? Last guy that quit was let go the day he gave notice. I have to give my notice this Friday for it to be 2 weeks which is also the day of the holiday party And when they give out the holiday bonus(If they do). Do I give a 1 week notice instead so I don't miss out on this? I could really use the money from both working and the bonus if it happens. May also be let go that day, and miss out on 2 weeks of work which would hurt my family a lot.
I cant start the new job any earlier than Jan 7th. I'm not trying to be a dick but I have a wife and 3 kids to look out for, and its the holidays. Money is crazy tight and we barely make ends meet. My wife doesn't earn enough to make it worth her working and putting the kids in daycare so I'm the sole income.
