A year ago, I [17 M] started looking for my first job. My mom suggested working at my small local grocery store, so without really thinking about it, I picked up an application. I didn’t really know anything about the job when I applied, but I just wanted to make some money. Within a couple weeks, I was already working 20+ hours a week.
I wish I had known more about the job before I started working there. It wasn’t too bad at first, but the longer I worked there, the more I hated it. The pay was the lowest it could legally be, the duties seemed redundant, all my coworkers were in their late 40s so it was tough to create friendships, and the environment of the store just put me in a bad mood.
In August I decided I wanted to quit. The store was very understaffed so I stuck it out until October. My boss didn’t want me to leave, but I did whatever I could to recruit new workers in and I eventually got 3 new employees when I left in mid October.
I’ve been wanting to make some more money as I’ve been unemployed for a couple months. I’ve been searching for jobs that I don’t think I’d hate and it’s been pretty tough. After reviewing all the options I think I have, I decided that working at sweetFrog, a frozen yogurt place, is my best bet. However, I don’t want to rush into it like I did with my grocery store job. I want to work somewhere I am happy and I don’t want to be regretting my decisions a couple weeks in.
I’ve been looking at job descriptions and reviews online. I get a lot of mixed opinions on the job though. Some people love it and some people hate it. Some say it’s easy, some say it’s hard. Some say it gets really busy and overwhelming, while some say it gets boring. I just wish I could completely understand what I’m signing up for before I commit. Any advice?
