Bit of background: I've just been offered a promotion to Commercial Writer from Junior Feature Writer. While I'm very excited about the new role and feel I can definitely excel in it, I fear it will take me away from the world of journalism and have me branded as an adman. Specifically, I worry that when I write the odd feature or interview about a person or company as I do now, they won't be too happy having the byline 'Commercial Writer' alongside the article, as it'll seem like they paid for it.
Should I therefore seek to have my title read Commercial / Feature Writer, or some other conjunctive to accommodate for my secondary role, or would that look silly?
