My prior experience is more or less seven years working in the service industry in a range of jobs, though primarily in FOH or management positions. The issue I have is that--despite being relatively young--I've developed chronic knee pain that is making these almost entirely standing positions untenable. For now, I can keep at the job I have, but long term, I foresee the pain being too big an issue to power through and one that (by recommendation) would be solved best by lessening exposure to long periods of standing.
The places I've worked are not the sort to make accommodations, due to either the small size of the business or the expendable nature of staff.
I was wondering if anyone had advice for getting into other fields--both in the sense of how this might be done broadly, and in suggestions for what to even strive towards. I find myself completely at a loss for what to do.
I currently have my long experience in service, some briefly documented experience in education and IT, and an education in History, but none of those are remarkable enough in their depth to shine out on a resume when compared to people with fuller training or experience in those fields.
