Advice for a middle school teacher looking to change careers?

My 26-year old girlfriend is a middle school teacher who loves working with kids and the virtues of teaching, but constantly feels drained by the downsides of working in a system designed for teachers to fail.

However, she does want to stay in a career path that works directly with people and affects change on a social level, locally or in a broader sense.
