US employee here. Boss has sprung a surprise conference on Monday that I have to host in Canada. Everything would be perfect, but over 5 years ago I got a DUI.... I was stupid back then. Work also doesn't know about my DUI (They never asked), and I'd rather not tell them if I don't have to. My boss is very religious and I know that work won't be as fun if my boss ever found out. Say goodbye to traveling for work at all if that's the case. It's just one DUI, no victims or damage or jail. Just me drinking a little too much and pulled over with a hefty fine and pleading guilty to the crime. I've never been in any other legal/criminal trouble ever. It's illegal and dumb and I messed up.
But as for my job and travel arrangements, what steps should I take to legally cross the border (by plane, not driving) for work? I've googled answers on filling out forgiveness type visas for Canada, but that paperwork will take too long. I've heard stories of people just not mentioning it and it not being a problem, but I do not want to take another risk and want to do immigration truthfully and honest. Can I just tell them as immigration straight up and will still be allowed to enter? I don't want to fly there and be forced onto a plane back.
Anyone else had this same experience? What should I do?
