Startup Equity

Not sure if this is the right place for this but I had some questions on startup equity. When getting a job offer what are the questions one should ask to make sure they are getting a fair deal. I know that the value and strike price of each stock are good questions but what about knowing what percentage of the pie you're getting? Is that only a question that you should ask when you're joining a startup in early stages (say seed or series a) or is it still a fair question to ask when the startup has had many rounds of funding and is doing pretty well. Please let me know if there are other things one needs to consider to see if the equity is good enough.
