I recently switched to a new job in a global company this June and was low-balled due to a shady 3rd party recruiter playing games (learned that they are on the company's side, not yours). I originally wanted to negotiate for the final offer but my recruiter would not let me saying I already am at the max budget so I started the job hoping for a good increase in the upcoming performance review. However, it's been taking me a lot of time for me to be acclimated than I expected. I have been putting extra efforts to catch up (working every night at home, working on site on the weekends, etc.) and my manager admitted that I have progressed much faster than most new hires. During the 5 months, I realized the glassdoor average rose even more, leaving me with 10k less than the new average pay. We had a couple of new hires at the same level as me so I thought the average was gonna go lower but it seems they were able to negotiate even higher (my assumption).
I don't mind waiting for next year's performance review instead for a salary increase, since I feel like asking for one without any accomplishments to show makes me a selfish-entitled person. However, the upper managers and my supervisor that all work on the floor knows how much I work and have been accepting new responsibilities and I was wondering if that's something good enough to be leveraged into this year's review. I would be going for around 5 - 10% rather than the standard 3% and that would still leave me short of average. Let me know what you guys think!
tl;dr - I work a lot more than my peers but I haven't been fully acclimated to my job. Is that grounds for asking for salary increase to at least be close to the average? Currently, almost 10k below average while other new hires may be paid higher than average.
