Just started a new job at a family owned company. It’s the mom (owner) and her daughter and now me. I got this job on accident and am starting to think I made the wrong choice. Good friend of my family use to work here and recommended me so they hired me on the spot. I feel trapped here now because I don’t want it to reflect poorly on me or the family friend if I quit. I know this is something I myself need to work on. So please don’t be harsh.
Anyways onto the main point. I thought it was going to be nice working here. The owners daughter just started working at the company a few months ago so technically we’re still new to everything. That being said it’s stressful. A very stressful job. They had some other people who worked there but they all quit. Go figure. They’ve made it clear that I’m not going to be getting much help from either of them and it’s my job to basically do everything and anything that they don’t feel like doing. They also get to take off whenever they’d like to when I still have no idea what the fuck is going on because I’m new. So imagine my surprise when they left for two weeks and I had to tell our clients repeatedly that I couldn’t help them and they needed to wait for the owner to get back. It reflects badly not only on me but on the company
There’s a lot of work and I feel like I’m drowning in it. I have no clue what to do. Please tell me I’m not alone. I’d really like some help or ways to cope with it till I can get out of here
Yes I have talked to the owner about this because I’ve dealt with this at a past job. I expressed my concerns and told her I don’t feel comfortable being left alone yet or taking on all their tasks when I still have my own work to do and learn on top of that. No changes have been made as far as I can tell.
I guess I’m just wondering if this job is even worth me stressing about. She seems to think I’m going to work there all my life.
