I had an interview for a Government job (Australia), with two days notice. The stage directly before the panel interview on the same day was job related testing, had to complete a (counterpart) IQ test, and pass it. It was computer marked on the spot to determine if you proceeded to the panel interview directly following that.
The thing is though, the email gave misleading instructions as to what test we would do. Abstract reasoning was listed, along with concentration and comprehension (three tests total), but only a comprehension assessment was given, I found I was hopeless at Abstract Reasoning so spent an entire day (only had two days notice for the assessment day), doing practice tests on that, which were then a waste of time. The supervisor at the assessment said I’m so sorry guys it was a mistake on behalf of the campaign manager.
I passed the comprehension with flying colour (heaps of trick questions) and so proceeded to the next stage, the panel interview straight afterwards. But I still didn’t prepare for the Panel Interview, which was a structured behavioural one.
Now, I didn’t perform to my full potential because I was underprepared because I wasted time revising something that was then reported to be a mistake in the email. Was the interview good? It was ok. But I could’ve done better. A lot better, if I didn’t waste my time revising something that was never going to be assessed + instead used that time to prepare for the interview, and recount all those great examples of customer service/teamwork I’ve done.
Should I call tomorrow politely thanking the people that carried out my interview, explaining my displeasure with the error, that I didn’t perform to my full potential as a result and possibly asking for a redo, factoring in I don’t yet know the outcome of the interview?
