I received a really great offer Friday from a job. I know if I accept it, they will do a background check.
Over four years ago, I was convicted of an OVUAC (Operating a vehicle after underage consumption). This is a fourth degree misdemeanor. I haven’t ever had a job offer rescinded because of it, but I have been grilled on it and hired anyway. I’m always honest about it. Anyone have experience in this?
Also, I have an internship on my resume. This internship was terrible, and the company was kind of toxic for me, so I put my two week notice in and left the internship early. At the time, I did this as respectful as I possibly could have. I had a meeting with my supervisors, told them face to face and had a hand written letter. Initially they had no issue, but then back pedaled and were understandably upset that I was breaking my commitment and leaving the internship early. However, I received a nice send off with thanks from everyone and my boss telling me I was a great worker and was sad to see me go.
The issue here is I told the smallish company when I left that I was taking an another internship that would extend into an offer. This was supposed to happen, but it never materialized with the other company. I guess I am afraid that when the company wants to verify my employment there, they might bad mouth me. I thought I left on good terms.
