Question about pay periods/paychecks

EDIT: this is located in Virginia btw

I just started a new job on October 9. It's good, I like it blah blah blah.

I started in the middle of the pay period that ended on October 15th, but noticed they didn't deposit the check into my account until October 22.

This isn't that small of a company btw, there are 4 offices around the US and 200+ employees.

Even at my past job where the company only had 7 employees, I got my paycheck/direct deposit 2 days after the pay period ended, not a whole week.

Is this odd? I just feel like it's a super long time between the period ending and me getting the check
